Augustus (“Gus” ) Daugherty
Gus grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and now lives in Brentwood, Ca. After taking classes twelve years ago he has been oil painting ever since
Gus said he is inspired by the work of Leonardo Da Vinci, and Renoir (whose “luncheon of the Boating Party” is a favorite) and several artists working today: Michael Parks, Cao Yong and Csaba Markus.
I see “The Flirty Thirties" which is 5th in a series of beach scenes each scenes starting on a Caribbean Island. An optical illusion is formed by the cabanas on a 3 dimensional wood base. The cabana scenes appear alive when a viewer walks back and forth about five feet away.
I want my work to catch attention and give pleasure. The men and women have authentic bathing suit's and hair dos of the 1930's. The women are flirting with the men which in turn gives pleasure to the viewer.
I am exploring variations of 2-D Romantic Beach Scenes, and have now painted seven Romantic Beach Scenes, oils on canvas. Beach Encounter, even Paradise, Lost in Paradise, Beach Nymph, Cave Man & Woman, Beach Temptress and Romantic Interlude! All seven are shown in this web site under framed Giclees and also unframed limited edition prints.
